I Drove 7 Miles -- Yheeyy!

Yesterday, BF was home from the field for 24hours. We had to do some errands at Fort Carson and asked him if I can drive down there. At first, he was shilly-shally to say "YES", maybe he was imagining me going on the rampage and running loads of people over and that thought scared him. But I was really persistent and he had no choice but to just give what I want.

This is one of those days that I am not scared to drive so I took the chance. But there were times that even I am not nervous to drive, I still made lots of mess and we, (jowa and I) will just end up pissed with each other (all because he yelled at me while driving and I really really hate it!) That's what I told him, to not to run his mouth while I'm driving
because that makes me out of focus. HALLER!?! Is he expecting me to drive good with the fact that I do not know anything about driving? He always seems impatient everytime he teaches me how to and swear, he already made me cry because of this driving issue. It just made me laugh every time I remember my mistakes and how he yells.

Anyways, driving from our home to Ft. Carson is like 15-20minutes drive and 7miles away. Jowa gave lots of reminder after he said yes.. It was pretty good folks - I WAS GOOD Just need to control my anger on the road now and try not to hurt or blame pedestrians for my mistakes. Heehe. Also, this is the first time my partner compliment my driving, especially my "U-turning" . The only problem he said I made was I'm little scared of gas. Hehe. I run 40mph wherein speed limit is 55mph.. One car behind us blown his horn because I was driving too slow.. Hehe. Need more practice too parking the car with another car parked besides. Tout ensemble, I did good. I was happy yesterday and so is he.. Way to go! We'll try to drive from Colorado Springs to Denver next week. Good luck on the highway! Heheh.. Read More......

I was watching this one Philippines' soap opera called "Maging Sino Ka Man"; and they played a song that's really catchy and thought to blog about the song. I, sometimes, thought why is it that I'm so affected by music. Hee! Being in-love is easy, but staying there is hard.. I Want To Be A Jumper!

Jowa and I just saw the movie Jumper. It's about teleportation and based on a teen-aimed science phantasm emprise novel about a boy who learns that he can teleport and in his adult years discovered that his jumping from place to place to place has no gone unnoticed.
Hayden Christensen plays David Rice, jumper who was an awkward as a kid, lonely as an adult and now being hunted by a mysterious white haired agent named Roland played by Samuel L. Jackson. Along the way, David tries to rekindle a childhood romance with his crush Millie played by Rachel Bilson and meets up with Jamie Bell's Griffin to team up and try to kill Roland and his agents that are after them. Why are they after them? According to Roland because only God should have the power to be all places at once. It's 88 minutes that has a lot of well designed action sequences (especially near the end -- I love the car scene), lots of CGI and very little palpable substance. A bigger character problem I noticed is Rachel Bilson. She cannot act. Plain and simple. She acts like a car speaking her lines in a single melodic line while in fierce moments or emotional ones. Christensen seems pretty slack and a little too zany most of the time. Sam Jackson, Diana Lane and Jamie Bell strikes one as too good for this flick. Jumper doesn't bore or draw itself out but it doesn't try much either. It is a throw away picture that could have been tighter and more appealing and absorbing. I can say that 'Jumper' is better than it's ads, but it's an empty film. I've seen much worst adventure flicks latterly that's why I will not give this a low rating. :)

Cloverfield -- My rant with this movie!

Warning: Do Not Sit Close.. Make sure you are sitting back far enough so the shaky camera doesn't make you dizzy. This is not a movie review, but a rant about a piece of garbage called Cloverfield -- a "movie" that's making millions of dollars for retelling a trite story on a shaky camera. Like a multi-layered splash of diarrhea, I've seen before thats kinda related to this one have kernels of truth, nuggets of terror and a shit load of cheap gore. Cloverfield, on the other hand, is nothing but a stream of offensivley vile bile. The first half of the movie feels like a direct-to-DVD home video version of a bad Dawson's Creek episode. The second half is a re-imagining of 9/11 with a morbidly obese lizard playing terrorist. The latter portion is more enjoyable, only because some of the incredibly annoying characters die. Nevertheless, I recommend that you watch the movie. A lot of people like it, and I am not one to judge. So go out and see it. Just remember to buy a large bucket of popcorn in case you have to vomit. What makes me more sick is that these Cloverfield filmmakers are able to afford fine dining while other struggling filmmakers with original concepts have to live on Dave Thomas' dollar-meal burgers. Movies often bring out our darkest fears, but the problem with Cloverfield is that 9/11 already happened and we've seen plenty of home-video footage documenting the actual attack. If we need to be reminded of terror and destruction, at least put a more original spin on it as opposed to throwing in a Good Year Gecko. I don't mean to offend you if you had anything to do with the making of Cloverfield. But then, my $5.50 is worth the CGI of the monster.. Read More......

Lachrymose Reality of Being a Military Partner

I miss my jowa.. Badly!
My bf has been gone since thursday.. And this video destroyed me. He will be gone for 7days. Wottt?! Just 7days and Julie you're acting as if he'll be gone for years!, someone told me.. I just shrugged.. Wish I can make those people fathom who are giving the same remark how hard for me (/us, military partners) to let go of him so that he could go fight for people that he didn't know, people that sometimes do not appreciate or understand what they are fighting for! A lot of people misunderstand the military partners.. Saying that we knew what we were getting ourselves into. But when you're in love, when you truly love someone, you're willing to make sacrifices, and military partners know this better than ANY civilian partners. Its not that we think we're better than civilian gfs (or wives), its just, well its hard to explain, and much harder to understand if you aren't in our shoes..
 
A month ago, today my entire life changed forever. It was September 12, which is a significant day to us for so many other reasons but it just so happened to be the day that I was driving away from everything I had ever known and everything that was comfortable to me.

Jumping ahead to now. Our alarm clock goes off every morning by 5 (at the latest.) My dear gets up and get dressed. He is not in a suit and tie. He is not in jeans and a casual shirt. He puts on his cammies, rolls his sleeves and blouses his pants into his boots. He is not wearing cowboy boots or work boots. He laces his combat boots. He does this everyday. We dont know when his lunch break is everyday, and we definitely dont know if he'll be home by supper time.

I have to watch him spread piles and piles of green and brown gear all over our house while packing it for training that is taking him away every month for at least 2 weeks at a time. This will go on from now until April..

This is not a game. We are not playing war here. We are in a war. Our relationship, which we are just starting to build, is already separated, torn apart, run through the mill and put in danger in more ways than one because of the war that this country is fighting. We are emotionally, spiritually and physically challenged as a couple during this time and so many others. I am not writing this to bring glory to him, or our relationship. I am writing this because the reality is, I have a pride for the strength that we have gained during this time. I am proud to look at him and know that he is sacrificing so much, not only for his country but for God who has called him for this specific season to do His will. Anthony is a United States Army to win souls to the Lord and that is exactly what he has done with his time in the military. But by doing that, he has also had to stand and act as an Army above everything else. He is a great partner, an amazing friend and a fine, fine Army.

Sometimes it doesn't feel real, even with gear that still smells like other countries hanging in our closets, "tank crossing" signs on the streets that we travel on, and piles upon piles of dirty boots in our front closet. Even with a million chevrons laying around this house, certificates of promotion hanging on our walls buried in camouflage. Even with all of that, I forget that I am part of his military career now.

It is hard. It is hard to stay at home alone for 24 hours while he serves duty. It is hard to stay at home alone for weeks or months at a time while he leaves for training. It is hard to hear his voice on the other end of the phone during that training and know that soon he wont be coming home after a few weeks. Soon, it will be months, and soon there will be a 3 second delay over the phone lines when we are trying to hold a conversation. It is hard hugging him for the last time, watching him try to be strong for ME while I cry when really he's dying inside. It's even harder watching him walk away, knowing that when he turns his back to me his tears are also falling and yet I can't run after him. It has to be "see you later" for that time. And yet its even harder knowing that "see you later" becomes forever. We have learned to never say goodbye. Its too real. Its too difficult.

However, as hard as all of that is...sadly, we have gotten very good at it. It never gets easier, don't get me wrong. In fact, I feel it is harder and more stressful now because we know the feelings and emotions we are going to feel and yet we cant avoid them. In essence, we try to prepare for them, only being shot down by feelings that have no preparation.

I write this today to remind myself of why we are doing what we are doing. Him, who at that time was just on his early 20's, wanted to become an Army and fight for this country. I am in love with him and therefore I will stand beside him through this journey. Sometimes I tell him that "I did not want to sign 'the dotted line'." However, in a way, I truly did. He wanted this, I wanted him and so we have traveled this road together. It has been a good journey. I am proud of this man. I am proud of Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors. I am proud of this country even if this is not my home.

I am left behind but I truly feel like I am doing my part to win this war as well. I am standing by him and supporting him while he leaves to do what has to be done. I will hold down the fort, raise up my hands, and bow to my knees. I will do these things so that men like my him can continue to fight for what we believe in and stand against the evil that the rest of the world is bringing into our homes. I can sleep peacefully at night knowing that we are standing firm for what we believe and we are accomplishing more than we know. I am honored to lay next to a man who can humbly say that he has done his part. I will forever be grateful to him for those things and although I dont tell him enough, I am blessed to have experienced this journey with him. It has been a long, hard, emotional road, but in the end I truly hope that we can say it was worth it.

God bless our troops. He is my hero along with so many more. We should all daily pray for the safety of these brave men and women who give so much. In fact, many dont realize just how much they give and what exactly they leave behind. They leave women like me (and children) to better this country. They do it for you! They do it so that your partner and children dont have to. They do it because God uses them and they do it because it has to be done.

National Treasure Book of Secrets Review

I went to the movie house with my jowa on Saturday to see the movie "National Treasure Book of Secrets", starring Nicholas Cage and John Voight... (both men are great actors to me).


When I saw the first National Treasure, it kinda reminded me of Indiana Jones, but in the suburbs! (by the way I enjoyed the Indiana Jones trilogy, Steven Spielberg is an awesome Director!).. I love action packed movies, especially adventure but I dont care for horror and gore though.

Nicholas Cage plays a treasure hunter as he did in the first National treasure but this time he has some additional business aside from treasure hunting, he has to clear his granddaddy's name because he was accused of being a conspirator in the assasination of Ole' Abraham Lincoln, wooooo! It has a slight spin to it now because it is a dose of conspiracy theory + History + Greed, a typical American movie, Oh yes and treasures too!!

I enjoyed the movie until Nicholas Cage came up with some outlandish plot to kidnap the President of the United States because he needed to get some secret info that the Prez had (Book of US Presidents). I thought it was so silly yet funny when Nicholas Cage was so arrogant as to dive in the water, swim ashore at a party the Prez was attending, and just pop-up and have a conversation with the Prez, who by the way never questioned Cage about how he got inside of the party National Treasure: Book of Secrets, did'nt make the cut this time to me.

What I love about this movie is the fact that it reveals some hidden truths about the country. I believe there are secret societies that really exist and they control the government. Another thing I like is, it is kid-friendly, and violence-free flick!

If you like lots of adventure, conspiracy, and treasure hunting, I guess you can overlook some of the flaws in this movie. . On a scale from 1-10, I would give it a 8... Oh yeah, if you never saw the first National Treasure I would suggest watching it. The first one is much better than the sequel!

As a Christian, I am offended by her hate speech. What do you think might have happened if she had made the hate speech against Muhammad????

Kathy Griffin has the right as an American to say what she thinks. As a Christian, so do I. Today I will refuse to watch any show that she may be on or purchase tickets to any event at which she would perform. What will you do?

Be Famous, Even in One Day!

Earlier today, I was reading food and travel blogs and came across The Famous, The Steak House.. The pictures of the food in from their website, looked really yummy and I made a mental note to visit the place since it's is very near where we live. My plan was like in the next two weeks or so.. But I was really hungry this afternoon and came across the article again while checking out what's showing in the theaters. Plus my laziness hit me again. I was talking with my jowa and I ended up describing the food stuff served in The Famous. It didn't help curb out my hunger pangs. Anyway, the next thing I realized, I kept telling my BF about visiting the place after we're done cleaning the house. He's my only chow buddies (meaning food trippers like me) and won't back out on something like this. The Famous is located at N. Tejon in Downtown Colorado Springs. Well, when you get a bite of that Famous, you will come back. So this serves as a reminder for road ragers with sweet tooth. We ordered Prime New York Strip. For dessert, we had New York Cheesecake with Fresh Fruit. We had iced teas for drinks plus semi-sweet red wine for him.... we devoured all of it with gusto. THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!! Dessert is sinfully good. I commented that eating the New York Cheesecake with Fresh Fruit tasted like his car. His car has this California Scents Coronado Cherry. And I meant that in a good way. The cheesecake is excellent. It's perfect. But my favorite is the fudge cake. The taste reminded me of the "molten" chocolate cake of Chili's. It's good food with reasonable prices. It's quality stuff without boring holes in your pockets. One more thing, they have this live piano every night (starts at 7pm) which we did not witness since we went there like 5pm..
